Summary
The Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN) is a 10-digit identifier issued by Indonesia's Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) to every taxpayer. EFIN acts as an activation code unlocking access to the DGT's electronic services. Since the Core Tax Administration System (Coretax) went into operation, EFIN issuance and related services shifted to the Coretax application.
This guide covers what EFIN means in 2026, requirements and activation steps, the recovery procedure if you forget your EFIN, how EFIN differs from a Coretax password, and common mistakes to avoid.
What EFIN Is
EFIN stands for Electronic Filing Identification Number. It serves as the access key linking a taxpayer to the DGT's electronic services. Each taxpayer receives only one EFIN for life, as long as the NPWP remains active and registered.
EFIN is confidential and personal. It must not be shared with third parties, including tax consultants or company staff, because it can be misused to access tax returns, tax invoices, and other confidential records.
In the Coretax era, EFIN remains the foundational electronic identity. Coretax pairs EFIN as an identification anchor with a separate Coretax password that handles day-to-day session access.
Legal Basis
The main rule is Director General of Taxes Regulation Number PER-41/PJ/2015 on the Procedure for Registration and Issuance of the Electronic Filing Identification Number, as amended by PER-32/PJ/2017.
Key references:
- Article 1 PER-41/PJ/2015: definition and scope of EFIN.
- Article 3 PER-41/PJ/2015: EFIN application procedure.
- Article 5 PER-41/PJ/2015: EFIN holder's confidentiality obligation.
- PER-32/PJ/2017: refinements to issuance and activation.
Coretax operational steps follow DGT's Coretax technical guidance, which references the latest DGT regulations and circulars.
Activation Mechanism
EFIN activation can be done through two main channels.
Channel 1: Coretax (online)
Taxpayers with an active Coretax account can apply for EFIN online:
- Log in to Coretax at pajak.go.id.
- Open the Taxpayer Services menu and select EFIN Application.
- Complete the form with NPWP, NIK, an active email address, and phone number.
- Upload supporting documents.
- Submit and wait for confirmation.
The DGT verifies the data. If valid, the EFIN is issued and sent to the registered email within a few business days.
Channel 2: Visit the KPP
New taxpayers or those without Coretax access can visit their registered Tax Service Office (KPP). Documents to bring:
- Original and photocopy of national ID (or KITAS for foreign nationals).
- Original and photocopy of NPWP.
- Active email address.
- Active phone number.
- EFIN application form (provided by the KPP).
Corporate taxpayers also bring deed of incorporation, latest amendment deed, power of attorney if represented, and ID and NPWP of management.
Fees and Limits
EFIN activation is free. EFIN is issued once for life. There is no expiry, as long as the taxpayer remains active and not deregistered.
EFIN reset for forgotten cases is also free. Verification is stricter to prevent abuse.
How to Reset a Forgotten EFIN
Three recovery channels are available.
First, official email. Send a reset request to the KPP's registered email, attaching a selfie holding your ID, scanned ID, scanned NPWP, and a brief note. The current email format and KPP address are listed at pajak.go.id and inside Coretax.
Second, Kring Pajak 1500200. Call DGT's call center for phone-based identity verification. Staff guide the reset.
Third, visit the registered KPP in person with ID and NPWP. The fastest route for urgent cases.
In Coretax, the forgot-password feature is different from forgot-EFIN. A Coretax password reset is handled at the login page, while EFIN reset uses the channels above.
Example
Budi works as a private-sector employee. In 2026, Budi files an annual return for the first time and has no EFIN. Budi's steps:
- Register a Coretax account at pajak.go.id using NIK and NPWP.
- Once active, Budi submits an EFIN application through the Taxpayer Services menu.
- Completes the form, uploads ID and NPWP, submits.
- After two business days, EFIN arrives by email.
- Logs back into Coretax with the EFIN and a new password, then files the annual PIT return.
A second case: Citra is a longtime taxpayer who lost her EFIN. Citra emails the registered KPP with a selfie holding her ID, scanned ID, and scanned NPWP. Within one to three business days, the EFIN is re-sent to her email.
